Has a Past Injury Left Your Nose Misshapen?
Post-Trauma Rhinoplasty – Restore Your Contours
Post-trauma rhinoplasties are corrective procedures performed following an injury to the nose. They can be done for aesthetic reasons as well as functional purposes, such as correcting breathing problems. A post-trauma rhinoplasty can restore your natural features to the way they were before your injury (or better). Dr. Ali Qureshi routinely performs the procedure for both men and women of all ages, whether the trauma was recent or as a child.
Am I a Good Candidate for Post-Trauma Rhinoplasty?
Someone who has had an injury to the mid-face or nose with nasal bleeding that didn’t heal right may be a candidate for post-trauma rhinoplasty surgery. Whether you’ve had a sports injury, car accident, or other instance that caused a nasal deformity/deviation, a rhinoplasty may help restore your appearance and ability to breathe.
If the trauma happened within the last few days, a closed nasal reduction or septal reduction may be performed without visible scars. However, if it has been longer, you may still be a candidate but require a closed or open rhinoplasty or septoplasty. Dr. Ali is a fellowship trained, skilled rhinoplasty surgeon who will be able to assess your individual needs and schedule your procedure accordingly. The sooner you see us after the injury, the better so we can come up with an individualized plan for you. Just Breathe™, Dr. Ali and his team are here to help.

How Does It Work?
During your procedure, Dr. Ali uses a variety of methods to correct issues associated with functionality and appearance. Depending on the nature of your injury, a post-trauma rhinoplasty may focus on reconstructing different parts of the nose. For example, if the nasal bones have previously been broken, they may need to be reset. If the septum has been broken, it may need to be straightened. Sometimes the internal or external nasal valves that allow for air to move in an out of the nose may be narrowed and need surgery to fix them.
Patients that have a weakening of the nose’s mid-section may need to enlist the help of a nasal graft to rebuild the nose. In these instances, Dr. Ali may suggest using ear, septal or autologous rib cartilage to repair the nose for long-term restructuring and breathing outcomes.
Post-trauma rhinoplasties require a good deal of surgical skill and artistry to achieve natural-looking results. Dr. Ali can often employ multiple reconstructive methods into a single procedure to give you the results you want. You can expect to be in and out of your outpatient surgery within 1-3 hours.
What Results Can I Expect from Post-Trauma Rhinoplasty?*
The goal is for previously crooked noses to appear straighter immediately following surgery. Patients who had breathing problems should notice improved breathing fairly quickly. Over time, results will continue to improve, leaving you with a fully functioning nose that’s aesthetically pleasing. Most patients are happy with the results right away and the majority of swelling is gone within a month. Post-trauma rhinoplasty and septoplasty can be done both closed and open depending on the nature of the injury.
What is the Recovery Like?*
Nose reconstruction has varying degrees of recovery and Dr. Ali will design a customized enhanced recovery protocol to get you back to feeling normal as soon as possible. Swelling may get a little worse before it gets better and this is expected. Dr. Ali likes to avoid narcotic pain medication unless absolutely necessary and his goal is to minimize your pain and downtime.
Patients are typically able to get back to non-strenuous activities such as work within one week. More strenuous tasks and activities like getting back to the gym or yoga class can be gradually incorporated into your routine over the course of 2-3 weeks. Most patients will notice their breathing is drastically improved.
