Are You Unhappy With The Results of Your Initial Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Revision Rhinoplasty Surgery – Restore Optimal Contours

Revision rhinoplasties are often done to correct a previous nose procedure. It is one of the most difficult procedures to perform and should only be done by a skilled rhinoplasty specialist. The procedure can restore optimal contours as well as improving nasal function as the most common complication after previous nose surgery is difficulty breathing. Dr. Ali Qureshi is fellowship trained in rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty and performs revision rhinoplasties out of Irvine, California and has helped many men and women achieve natural contours with long-lasting results in his career.

Am I a Good Candidate for Revision Rhinoplasty?

You may be a good fit for revision rhinoplasty if you’re bothered by the outcome of a previous unsatisfactory rhinoplasty. Sometimes other surgeons and doctors may not notice things that only you may be bothered by. While some surgeons may wait for at least 12 months, Dr. Ali has seen exceptional outcomes with revision rhinoplasties done earlier depending on what needs to be corrected or improved.

Revision rhinoplasty patients should be in otherwise good general health and have realistic expectations about what the procedure can do for them. Revision rhinoplasty is not just a single operation but is a process that Dr. Ali and his team will help you through. Remember, at Just Breathe™ Rhinoplasty, we’re here to help. Dr. Ali will assess your concerns before personalizing a treatment plan to give you the results you want and help maintain or improve your breathing.

How Does It Work?

Dr. Ali often chooses to avoid artificial materials that can cause potential problems down the line when performing revision rhinoplasty surgeries. In many cases, he prefers to use your own rib cartilage because of its structural integrity and because it is your own tissue. While revision rhinoplasty with rib cartilage may require another incision for the rib harvest, Dr. Ali feels the long-term results and advantages of using your own tissue are better than using donated cadaver rib. During your rhinoplasty procedure, cartilage is harvested via a small incision (1-2 in) that can be hidden under the breast or the abdomen.

At the time of your revision surgery, Dr. Ali uses the rib cartilage as a graft to restore the stability that has been lost or add structure to the nose and airways. The cartilage is meticulously carved and placed to ensure maximum benefits and natural-looking results. The entire procedure should take 3-4 hours and is done on an outpatient basis. Dr. Ali will create a customized enhanced recovery protocol for you to ensure your pain and discomfort is under control. Dr. Ali will likely to avoid narcotics which can make you sleepy, irritable or constipated unless absolutely necessary.

Revision rhinoplasties are more complex and the healing process may be longer than your first operation. Dr. Ali has the training, skill, and artistry to correct failed rhinoplasties of the past. Using the latest, most advanced surgical techniques and your own tissues, he’s able to improve your nose and breathing.

What Results Can I Expect from Revision Rhinoplasty?*

Many patients say their recovery is better than their first operation, because not everyone will need their nasal bones broken or because their expectations are better. Dr. Ali creates a customized enhanced recovery protocol to ensure your comfort after surgery. Although some post-surgical swelling may mask your final outcome, you should be able to see the new contours of your nose soon after your revision surgery. Remember, revision rhinoplasty is not just a surgery it is a process and you will continue to improve under the guidance and care of Dr. Ali and his team.

Unlike synthetic grafts or donated cadaver rib, rib cartilage for revision rhinoplasty is your own tissue. You can enjoy the contours of your newly proportionate nose without worrying that someone else’s tissue or artificial material is now in your nose.

What is the Recovery Like?*

Recovery from revision rhinoplasty procedures depends on the nature of the revision and whether or not rib is used. Dr. Ali works to make recovery as comfortable as possible with a customized enhanced recovery protocol tailored to you and your needs.

Most patients are able to return to work in about 1 week when splints are removed. The majority of residual swelling should be gone within a few weeks but may last for up to a year or longer. Patients who had a rib graft recover well and can resume normal activities soon after surgery.
